1. Cleaning:
   • Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to prevent fading. Avoid bleach or similar products.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to avoid snags.
   • Drying: Air dry by laying flat or hanging. Do not use a tumble dryer as high heat can shrink and damage the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place.
3. Folding the Angola Flag:
   • Prepare the Flag: Lay the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface, ensuring it is free from dirt and wrinkles.
   • Align the Edges: Fold the flag lengthwise in half, bringing the two edges together so they align neatly.
   • Fold Lengthwise Again: Fold the flag in half lengthwise once more, keeping the edges aligned.
   • Form a Triangle: Starting from the hoist (left) side, fold the flag diagonally into a triangle shape, working across the width. Continue folding in this triangular pattern until the flag is compactly folded.
   • Final Tuck: Once the flag is folded into a triangle, tuck any excess fabric into the folds to secure it, making sure the emblem remains visible and well-presented.
4. Handling:
   • Protect from Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects that might cause snags, tears, or abrasions.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly hoisted and free of obstructions.
   • Flag Exposure: Minimise exposure to harsh weather by taking the flag down during extreme conditions or in the evening.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, replace the flag with a spare and consult a seamstress for repairs.
   • Replacement: When the flag shows signs of wear, consider ordering a new one to ensure you have a fresh flag for future events.

Flying the Angola Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Attach the flag securely to the flagpole, ensuring it is evenly distributed and not twisted.
  • Raise the flag slowly and steadily, making sure it is fully unfurled and not caught on any part of the pole or rigging.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • Ensure the flag is flown with the emblem facing outward and positioned in a place of honour, preferably in a central or elevated position.
  • If flying multiple flags, place the Angola flag in the centre or at the highest point, ensuring it is given prominence over other flags.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole and then lower it to a position approximately halfway between the top and bottom of the pole.
  • Ensure the flag remains in this position for the duration of the period of mourning or as prescribed by protocol.
  • After the period of mourning, raise the flag back to the top before lowering it completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • Raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset, adhering to the times of day as a mark of respect.
  • Ensure the flag is fully raised to the top of the pole at sunrise and completely lowered at sunset to maintain proper etiquette.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Avoid flying the flag during severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or storms, as these can damage the fabric.
  • In adverse weather, take the flag down promptly and store it in a dry, safe place until conditions improve.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • When the flag becomes worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
  • Arrange for the flag to be disposed of in a dignified manner, often through burning in a ceremonial way or by following local regulations for flag retirement.
  • Ensure that the retirement process respects the flag’s symbolism and heritage.
