To maintain the vibrant appearance and extend the life of your product, please adhere to the following care guidelines:
- Cleaning:
- Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to wash your flag to minimise fading. Avoid bleach or similar products that could damage the fabric.
- Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snags.
- Drying: Air dry the flag by laying it flat or hanging it up. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat can lead to shrinkage and fabric damage.
- Storage:
- Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Folding the Angola Flag:
- Prepare the Flag: Lay the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface, ensuring it is free of dirt and wrinkles.
- Align the Edges: Fold the flag lengthwise in half, bringing the two edges together so they align perfectly.
- Fold Lengthwise Again: Fold the flag in half lengthwise a second time, ensuring the edges remain aligned.
- Fold into a Triangular Shape: Starting from the hoist (left) side, fold the flag diagonally into a triangle, working your way across the width. Continue folding the flag in this triangular manner until it forms a compact shape.
- Final Fold: Once the flag is folded into a triangle, tuck any remaining fabric neatly into the folds to secure it. Ensure the flag’s emblem remains visible and undisturbed.
- Handling:
- Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the product away from sharp objects or surfaces that might cause snags, tears, or abrasions.
- Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly hoisted and free of obstructions.
- Flag Exposure: Reduce exposure to harsh weather by taking the flag down during extreme conditions or at night.
- Repairs:
- Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, replace the flag with a spare and take the damaged one to a seamstress for repair.
- Replacement: When the flag shows signs of significant wear, consider replacing it to maintain a fresh and vibrant display.
Flying the Angola Flag:
- Raising the Flag:
- Ensure the flag is free of any folds or creases. Check that it is clean and in good condition.
- Attach the flag securely to the flagpole, ensuring it is correctly aligned with the hoist side at the top.
- Hoist the flag smoothly and steadily to the top of the pole, avoiding any jerking or sudden movements. The flag should be flown aloft and free of any obstructions.
- Displaying the Flag:
- Ensure the flag is fully extended and not touching the ground. The flag should be displayed prominently and clearly visible.
- When flying the flag, the emblem, which is centred on the flag, should be visible and facing outward from the hoist side.
- Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
- Begin by raising the flag to the top of the pole before lowering it to half-mast. This acknowledges the flag’s full stature before it is lowered. Lower the flag so that the centre is at half of the pole’s height. The flag should not touch the ground or any other objects.
- At the end of the mourning period or ceremony, raise the flag back to full mast before lowering it for the day.
- Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
- Raise the flag at sunrise or just before, ensuring it is fully extended and visible as the day begins.
- Lower the flag at sunset or before dark. Ensure the flag is taken down with respect and properly folded if it will not be flown the next day.
- Weather Conditions:
- Do not fly the flag in severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or snow, as this can cause damage.
- If the flag must be displayed during adverse weather, use a weather-resistant flag or cover the flag to protect it.
- Retirement of the Flag:
- Regularly check the flag for signs of wear or damage. When it becomes worn or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
- Follow local or national guidelines for flag retirement. Typically, this involves a ceremonial burning or respectful disposal of the flag in a dignified manner.
By following these care guidelines, you can keep your Angola flag in top condition, maintaining its vibrant colours and long-lasting quality. Your flag is a symbol of your pride in Angola and its heritage, and the care you give it reflects your respect for this national emblem.
