1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Always clean the flag using a mild detergent to reduce fading. Steer clear of bleach or harsh chemicals that could harm the colours.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, opt for a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snagging.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as high temperatures can shrink or damage the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage.
3. Folding the Italy Flag:
   • Preparation: Begin by laying the flag face down on a clean, flat surface to prevent dirt or debris from affecting its appearance.
   • First Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise, ensuring that the top edge aligns perfectly with the bottom edge. This helps to create a sharp crease.
   • Second Fold: Fold the flag in half again lengthwise, keeping the same alignment. This should create a long, narrow rectangle.
   • Triangular Folds: Starting from the open end (the fly end), take the bottom corner and fold it diagonally up to meet the top edge, forming a triangle.
   • Continue Folding: With each subsequent triangular fold, take the bottom corner and fold it up, maintaining the triangular shape. Repeat this process until you reach the end of the flag.
   • Final Touch: Once all the fabric is folded into triangles, tuck the remaining fabric inside the last triangle fold to secure it in place.
4. Handling:
   • Protect from Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from anything sharp or abrasive that could lead to snags or rips.
   • Properly Secure the Flag: Make sure the flag is firmly attached during display to avoid putting undue stress on the material.

  • Using the Vertical Sleeve: For flags with a vertical sleeve, insert the flagpole into the sleeve pocket and secure it to the flagpole. Lift the flag by raising the entire pole, ensuring the flag hangs freely and is visible.
  • When raising the flag, do so briskly to signify respect and honour.
  • Ensure the flag is hoisted high enough that it doesn’t touch the ground.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • The Italy Flag should be displayed with the green stripe at the hoist side (the side attached to the flagpole) and the red stripe on the outside.
  • If displaying multiple flags, position the Italy Flag at the centre or highest point, signifying its importance.
  • Ensure the flag is fully extended and not twisted or tangled to present a clear and dignified appearance.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole and then lower it to the halfway mark.
  • This is typically done to honour a significant event or the passing of notable individuals.
  • Remember to return the flag to full height once the period of mourning has passed.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset to signify respect for the nation.
  • If displaying the flag overnight, ensure it is illuminated by appropriate lighting, or take it down at dusk.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Avoid flying the flag during severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain, snow, or high winds, which may cause damage to the fabric.
  • If extreme weather is expected, lower the flag and store it safely until conditions improve.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • When the flag becomes worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
