1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Wash the flag with a mild detergent to prevent fading. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals that may damage the colours.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snags.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat can shrink or damage the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage.
3. Folding the Cameroon Flag:
   • Lay the Flag Flat: Start by placing the flag on a clean, flat surface with the front side facing down.
   • Fold Lengthwise: Fold the flag in half lengthwise so that the green stripe is aligned with the yellow stripe, ensuring the edges are aligned.
   • Fold Again: Fold the flag in half lengthwise once more, aligning the edges neatly.
   • Fold from the End: Starting from the end near the flagpole, fold the flag into a long, narrow strip, making sure each fold is even and smooth.
   • Create a Triangle: Continue folding the strip in a triangular manner, beginning at the flagpole end, until you reach the end of the flag.
   • Tuck and Secure: Tuck the remaining end of the flag into the folds to create a compact, triangular shape that holds securely.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp or rough surfaces that could cause snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly fastened when displayed to avoid unnecessary strain on the fabric.
   • Minimise Exposure: Take down the flag during severe weather or overnight to maintain its condition.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider having the flag repaired by a professional seamstress.

  • Display the flag with the green stripe on the left side, aligning the yellow stripe on the right side, to correctly represent the national colours.
  • Ensure the flag is prominently visible and unobstructed. It should be flown with respect, positioned at the highest point of the flagpole.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the flagpole and then lower it to the halfway point.
  • This practice is used to honour significant events or individuals. Ensure the flag is evenly positioned and remains stable throughout the period of mourning.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • Raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset to ensure it is displayed only during daylight hours.
  • If the flag needs to be flown overnight, ensure it is illuminated by a light source to maintain visibility and respect.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Avoid flying the flag during severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain, strong winds, or snow, as these can damage the fabric.
  • If adverse weather is forecast, take down the flag to protect it and re-display it once conditions improve.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • When the flag is no longer in good condition, it should be retired with respect.
  • The retirement can be performed through a ceremonial burning or a formal retirement ceremony. Ensure the process honours the flag’s significance and maintains its dignity.
