1. Cleaning:
   • Wash Gently: Always use a mild detergent to clean your flags to prevent fading. Avoid using bleach or similar harsh chemicals.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from getting snagged.
   • Drying: Air dry by laying the flag flat or hanging it up. Avoid tumble drying, as the high heat can cause shrinkage and damage to the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Make sure flags are completely dry before storing them. Keep them in a cool, dry, and secure location.
3. Folding the Azerbaijan Flag:
   • Lay the flag flat on a clean, dry surface.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the top and bottom edges.
   • Fold the flag in half again lengthwise, ensuring the folds are even.
   • Starting from the side with the hoist (where the flag attaches to the pole), make small, neat triangular folds towards the flag's end. Each fold should be approximately 30cm in width to maintain a consistent size.
   • Continue making triangular folds until you reach the end of the flag, ensuring each fold is aligned neatly with the previous one.
   • Once folded, you should see a small triangular section. Smooth out any wrinkles and ensure the flag is neatly folded and compact.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects and surfaces that could cause snags, tears, or abrasions.
   • Secure Installation: Always ensure the flag is securely attached and flies freely.
   • Flag Exposure: Reduce exposure to harsh weather by taking down the flag at night or during extreme weather conditions.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: If you notice any wear or damage, promptly replace the flag with a spare and take the damaged one to a seamstress for professional repair.
   • Replacement: As the flag nears the end of its lifespan, consider ordering a new one to ensure you have a pristine flag ready for important events.

Flying the Azerbaijan Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Begin by securing the flag to the halyard (the rope used for raising and lowering) with the hoist side (the side attached to the pole) at the top.
  • Ensure the flag is fully unfolded and free from creases or tangles before raising it.
  • Gradually raise the flag to the top of the flagpole with a steady, smooth motion. Ensure the flag reaches its full height and is taut without any sagging.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • When displayed, the flag should be flown with the crescent and star facing upwards. Ensure it is positioned so that it is easily visible and not obstructed by other objects or flags.
  • The Azerbaijan flag should be the highest flag when displayed with other flags, and it should be hoisted first and lowered last if multiple flags are flown together.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole and hold it there briefly to honour the occasion.
  • Lower the flag to the halfway point of the flagpole. Ensure it is displayed evenly and symmetrically in the half-mast position.
  • When taking the flag down, raise it back to the top of the pole momentarily before lowering it completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • The flag should be raised at sunrise and taken down at sunset. If the flag is to be flown overnight, ensure it is illuminated by a light source to maintain visibility.
  • If flying the flag at night, it is customary to use proper lighting to ensure it remains visible and honourably displayed.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Avoid flying the flag in extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or snow, as these can damage the fabric.
  • During adverse weather, it is recommended to take the flag down to prevent wear and tear. Store it properly until conditions improve.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • When the flag becomes worn out, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
  • Dispose of the flag by burning it in a dignified ceremony, or consult with local authorities for appropriate retirement methods. Ensure the process reflects the respect and honour due to the flag’s symbolism.
