To maintain the longevity and vibrant look of your Norway flag, please follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, as harsh chemicals and bleach can damage the fabric and fade the colours.
   • Machine Washing: If you need to machine wash, place the flag in a mesh laundry bag and select a gentle cycle with cold water to prevent wear and tear.
   • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it up to dry naturally. Avoid using a tumble dryer as excessive heat can cause shrinking or damage.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it to avoid mould or mildew. Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture.
3. Folding the Norway Flag:
   • Start by laying the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface with the cross design prominently displayed.
   • Fold the flag lengthwise into thirds, making sure the edges align perfectly and the blue cross stays centred with an even white outline on each side.
   • Bring the right edge over to meet the left, creating a long, narrow strip with the cross in the centre.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise again, aligning the top and bottom edges to form a more compact shape.
   • Begin folding the flag into a triangular shape starting from one end. Fold the bottom edge up and angle it towards the top to create a pointed tip.
   • Continue folding the flag in a triangular fashion until it is neatly folded into a compact triangle or square.
   • Make sure each fold is tidy and well-aligned, with the flag’s design facing outward in the final fold.
   • Store the folded flag in a protective case or secure location to maintain its condition and readiness for display.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough textures that could cause snags or tears.
   • Secure Display: Ensure the flag is properly fastened and able to move freely to avoid damage during display.
   • Flag Exposure: To extend the life of the flag, take it down during extreme weather conditions or at night to minimise exposure to harsh elements.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: For any fraying or minor damage, swap out the flag with a spare and have the damaged one professionally repaired by a skilled seamstress.
   • Replacement: When the flag has reached the end of its life, consider replacing it to maintain the quality and appearance of your display.

Flying the Norway Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Verify that the flagpole is secure and in good working order before hoisting the flag.
  • Header with Loops: Position the reinforced loops over the pole and use sister clips to fasten the flag securely in place.
  • Vertical Sleeve: Insert the pole into the sleeve until it is fully positioned, making sure the flag is straight and hangs uniformly.
  • Gently pull the halyard to lift the flag, ensuring a smooth and obstruction-free ascent.
  • Once the flag is raised, tie the halyard securely to prevent movement that could cause damage.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • The Norway flag should be flown showcasing the blue cross outlined in white.
  • Ensure the flag is displayed clearly, without being obstructed by other objects or flags.
  • The flag should be kept free of wrinkles and bunching to maintain a neat and respectful presentation.
  • Take care to avoid allowing the flag to touch the ground or any surfaces that could soil or damage it.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast:
  • Begin by raising the flag to the top of the pole for a brief moment before lowering it to the halfway mark.
  • Ensure the flag is balanced and symmetrically positioned on the pole for a dignified appearance.
  • When flying multiple flags, position the Norway flag at the centre or highest point among the flags at half-mast.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • Raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset as a mark of respect, displaying it only during daylight hours unless illuminated at night.
  • If flying the flag after dark, use proper lighting that shines directly on the flag to ensure it is visible and not obscured by shadows.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Refrain from flying the flag in harsh weather, such as strong winds, heavy rain, or snow, as these can damage the fabric.
  • If severe weather is anticipated, lower the flag to prevent potential damage.
  • Choose durable, weather-resistant materials for outdoor displays to withstand various environmental conditions.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • When the flag becomes worn, frayed, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired with respect.
  • The flag can be ceremonially burned in a dignified manner or taken to a designated facility for proper disposal.
