1. Cleaning:
   • Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, helping to preserve its colours and fabric. Steer clear of bleach or harsh chemicals.
   • Machine Wash: If necessary, place the flag in a mesh laundry bag and select a gentle cycle with cold water to avoid damage.
   • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it up to air dry. Avoid using a tumble dryer, as high heat can shrink or harm the material.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is fully dry before storing it to prevent mould or mildew. Keep it in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight.
3. Folding the Guyana Flag:
   • Position the Flag: Begin by laying the flag on a clean, flat surface with the hoist side (the side with the fastening) facing you.
   • First Lengthwise Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge up to align with the top edge. Ensure the edges are evenly matched.
   • Second Lengthwise Fold: Fold it in half lengthwise once more to further reduce its width, ensuring the flag remains smooth and free of creases.
   • Form a Triangle: Starting from the hoist end, take the corner of the folded edge and fold it over to create a triangle, making sure the flag's emblem remains visible.
   • Continue the Triangle Folds: Keep folding the flag into triangles by bringing the top point down to meet the bottom edge, then folding it over again to form the next triangle. Repeat this process until you reach the end of the flag.
   • Secure the Last Triangle: After folding the entire length of the flag into triangles, tuck the last point into the previous folds to hold it securely in place. This prevents the flag from coming undone.
   • Make Final Adjustments: Adjust the folded flag as necessary to maintain a tidy appearance, ensuring the emblem is facing outward if displayed.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Ensure the flag is kept away from sharp items or rough surfaces to avoid snags and damage.
   • Proper Attachment: Make sure the flag is firmly secured and can move freely when on display.

Flying the Guyana Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • Ensure the flagpole is secure and stable before starting.
  • Using Header with Loops: If your flag comes with reinforced loops, slip them over the flagpole and fasten with sister clips. Check that the flag is properly positioned before hoisting it up.
  • Using Vertical Sleeve: For flags with a vertical sleeve, carefully slide the flag onto the pole, ensuring the top edge is just beneath the top of the pole. Make sure it fits securely and snugly before raising it fully.
  • Raise the flag swiftly and smoothly. Take care not to let the flag touch the ground during this process.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • Position the flag in a prominent location where it can be easily seen and appreciated.
  • The Guyana flag should be displayed upright, with the yellow triangle pointing to the right when viewed from the front.
  • When displaying multiple flags, ensure the Guyana flag is at the same height or to the left of the other flags, honouring it with the respect it deserves.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast:
  • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole for a moment before lowering it to the halfway point.
  • The midpoint of the flag should align with the height of the flagpole, or you can lower it to a position that signifies mourning, following local guidelines.
  • When taking the flag down from half-mast, raise it back to the top before completely lowering it.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • It is customary to raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset to honour the beginning and end of the day.
  • If illuminated, the flag can be flown at night, but ensure it is displayed correctly, with the emblem facing the right direction.
  • During daylight hours, promptly raise the flag at dawn and lower it respectfully at dusk.
• Weather Conditions:
  • Always check the weather before flying the flag. If high winds, storms, or severe weather are expected, it’s wise to take the flag down to prevent damage.
