1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Wash the flag with a mild detergent to protect the colours from fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the fabric.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. To prevent snagging, place the flag in a mesh laundry bag.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying as high heat may shrink or damage the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from moisture to prevent damage.
3. Folding the Qatar Flag:
   • Lay the Flag Flat: Start by laying the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface, ensuring the fabric is free of wrinkles.
   • First Fold (Lengthwise): Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the hoist side (the side with the loops or sleeve) towards the fly side, aligning the edges neatly.
   • Second Fold (Lengthwise): Fold the flag in half again lengthwise, this time bringing the two long edges together, ensuring the colours remain visible and the edges are aligned.
   • Third Fold (Widthwise): Fold the flag in thirds, starting from the hoist side. Begin by folding one end towards the centre, then fold the other end over it, creating a compact rectangle.
   • Final Adjustments: Smooth out any creases or wrinkles to ensure the flag is folded neatly and securely, with the colours visible on the outside.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that could cause snags or tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is securely attached when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
   • Minimise Exposure: Bring the flag indoors during extreme weather or overnight to preserve its condition.
5. Repairs:
   • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider repairing the flag or taking it to a professional seamstress.

Flying the Qatar Flag:

• Raising the Flag:
  • When raising the flag, ensure it is securely attached to the flagpole with the hoist side (the side with the loops or sleeve) at the top.
  • Raise the flag briskly, ensuring it does not touch the ground during the process. It should be flown high, allowing the full design to be visible.
  • Ensure the flag is raised to the top of the pole, unless it is being flown at half-mast.
• Displaying the Flag:
  • The Qatar flag should be displayed with the white portion of the flag positioned at the hoist side (the side closest to the pole) and the maroon section facing outward.
  • The flag should be displayed fully extended, free from wrinkles or folds, ensuring it is clearly visible from all sides.
  • If flying multiple flags, the Qatar flag should be flown in a position of honour, at the same height or higher than other flags.
• Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
  • To fly the Qatar flag at half-mast, first raise the flag to the top of the pole, then lower it to a position halfway between the top and bottom of the flagpole.
  • This is typically done to mark a period of mourning or remembrance. Once the flag is lowered, it should be flown at this position until it is time to raise it again.
  • Always ensure the flag is returned to full height after the period of mourning has ended.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
  • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset. If the flag is displayed overnight, ensure it is illuminated by a light source to maintain proper visibility.
  • If flying the flag at night without proper lighting, it is recommended to take the flag down to prevent wear from exposure to the elements.
• Weather Conditions:
  • The Qatar flag should be flown in fair weather, but during strong winds, heavy rain, or storms, it is best to lower the flag to prevent damage.
  • If the flag is flown in harsh weather conditions, ensure it is checked regularly for any wear or tear, and consider bringing it down if necessary to protect its integrity.
• Retirement of the Flag:
  • When the Qatar flag becomes worn, torn, or faded beyond repair, it should be retired in a respectful manner.
