Our Knitted Polyester North Korea Flag is a symbol of the nation’s identity.

The North Korea Flag:

The North Korean flag is filled with meaning and symbolism that reflect the country’s ideals, revolution, and unity:
  • Blue: Symbolize the desire for peace and unity in the country and the world.
  • Red: Represents the blood shed by Korean patriots fighting against the Japanese, who colonized the Korean peninsula for 45 years. It also symbolises communism, which was the international symbol at the time the flag was introduced.
  • White Circle: Contains a five-pointed star that stands for the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea, symbolizing socialism and the guidance of the Korean people.
  • Red Star: Represents the Korean people’s lofty spirit and the prospect of the DPRK. The star was an international symbol of communism at the time the flag was introduced.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the North Korea flag, please follow these care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Wash the flag with a mild detergent to prevent colour fading. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals that may damage the fabric’s colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it up to dry naturally. Do not use a tumble dryer, as high heat can shrink or damage the material.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Store it in a cool, dry, and safe place to prevent moisture damage and preserve its condition.
  3. Folding the North Korea Flag:
    • Start by placing the flag on a clean, flat surface with the front side facing down.
    • Smooth out any wrinkles or creases to ensure the flag is as flat as possible.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge, aligning the edges carefully.
    • Fold the flag in half again lengthwise, ensuring that the edges line up evenly, creating a narrower rectangular shape.
    • Fold the flag widthwise by bringing the right edge over to the left, creating a square-like shape. Smooth down the folds to keep it tidy.
    • Repeat this process one more time, folding the flag widthwise so it forms a smaller, compact rectangle.
    • For added protection, place the folded flag in a breathable storage bag or container to maintain its shape and prevent dust or moisture from affecting it.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly secured when displayed to avoid putting unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during severe weather conditions or overnight to maintain its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, have the flag assessed and repaired by a professional seamstress.
    • Replacement: If the flag becomes significantly worn, consider purchasing a new one to ensure your display always looks its best.

Flying the North Island Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Ensure the flag is clean and undamaged before raising it.
    • Header with Loops: Slide the header loops onto the halyard or use the clips to secure the flag, ensuring it is evenly distributed and properly aligned on the pole.
    • Vertical Sleeve: Insert the flag’s vertical sleeve over the flagpole, making sure it fits snugly and moves smoothly up and down the pole without obstruction.
    • Raise the flag briskly and smoothly, avoiding any sudden jerks that could damage the fabric.
    • Make sure the flag is hoisted to the top of the flagpole unless stated otherwise for specific occasions.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • The flag should be displayed ensuring the red star is on the left side from the observer’s view and facing outward.
    • Ensure the flag is taut and free from wrinkles or folds to present a clean and polished appearance.
    • The flag should not touch the ground or any surfaces during display.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole, then lower it to the midpoint of the flagpole.
    • The flag should be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect or during times of mourning or national significance.
    • When the mourning period ends, raise the flag back to the top of the pole.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • Raise the flag at sunrise, ensuring it is securely fastened and properly displayed as the day begins.
    • Lower the flag at sunset unless it is illuminated for night-time display. If flying the flag overnight, ensure it is well-lit to comply with etiquette guidelines.
    • If displaying the flag for an extended period, check regularly to make sure it remains in good condition and properly secured.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Avoid flying the flag during extreme weather, such as strong winds, heavy rain, or storms, as this can damage the fabric and reduce its lifespan.
    • In case of adverse weather, take the flag down to protect it from potential tearing, fraying, or other damage.
    • For flags flown outdoors, consider using weather-resistant materials and reinforced stitching to better withstand various conditions.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When a flag becomes worn, damaged, or no longer suitable for display, it should be retired with respect.
    • A dignified retirement involves carefully folding the flag and then burning it in a respectful manner, either at a designated facility or under controlled conditions.
    • Avoid disposing of the flag in an undignified manner, such as throwing it away or discarding it improperly, to maintain the honour and symbolism it represents.

By following these guidelines, your flag will retain its vibrant colours and remain in top condition for many years. Taking care of your flag is not just about preservation but also about honouring the pride and heritage it represents.
