    • Red Stipe: Symbolises the blood shed in Africa.
    • White Stripe: Represents purity and moral excellence
  • Blue Square: The blue square in the top left corner represents the African continent.
  • White Star: The single white star symbolises Liberia as the first independent African republic with Western-style governance.

Evanevans 100% Australian Made and owned

To maintain the quality and colours of your Liberia flag, please follow these care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent to wash the flag carefully and help prevent fading. Avoid using bleach or other harsh chemicals that can damage the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to reduce the risk of snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat may cause shrinkage or fabric damage.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is fully dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry area to prevent moisture-related damage.
  3. Folding the Liberia Flag:
    • Start with Preparation: Ensure the flag is laid out flat and held taut by two people, one at each end. Align the flag so the blue field with the white star is at the top left.
    • First Lengthwise Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. Make sure the colours and edges are smooth and even.
    • Second Lengthwise Fold: Fold it in half lengthwise again, keeping the blue field visible on the outside. This fold should align all edges cleanly.
    • Create Triangular Folds: Starting at the striped end, make a small triangular fold by bringing the lower right corner to the top edge, forming a triangle. Continue folding in triangles, moving toward the blue field.
    • Complete the Triangular Folds: Continue folding in this triangular pattern, keeping each fold tight and smooth until only the blue field remains.
    • Secure the Final Fold: Tuck any remaining blue fabric into the folded triangles to ensure a compact and secure shape. The folded flag should now be a neat triangle with the blue field and star visible on one side.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that could cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Display: Ensure the flag is properly secured to prevent strain or damage from wind or movement.
    • Minimise Exposure: Lower the flag during severe weather or at night to preserve its quality.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small frays or tears, remove the flag and take it to a professional for repair.
    • Replacement: If the flag shows signs of significant wear, consider replacing it to maintain its quality and appearance.

Flying the Liberia Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Begin by ensuring the flag is in good condition, free of any tears or fraying.
    • Using Header with Loops: If your flag has a header with loops, thread the halyard through the reinforced loops at the top of the flag and secure it tightly to ensure stability while flying.
    • Using Vertical Sleeve: For flags with a vertical sleeve, slide the flag onto the flagpole until it is properly positioned. Secure it in place using the appropriate fasteners, ensuring the flag is taut and visible.
    • Stand at attention, then raise the flag briskly, making sure it flies freely without obstruction.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • When displaying the flag on a flagpole, ensure it is positioned so that the blue field with the white star is always on the top left side when facing the flag.
    • If displaying indoors, hang the flag vertically or horizontally, ensuring that the blue field is oriented correctly for viewers to see.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole and then lower it to the half-mast position.
    • The flag should be lowered about two-thirds of the way down the pole, allowing for visibility while maintaining respect for the occasion.
    • When lowering the flag to half-mast, take care to follow specific protocols related to mourning or remembrance as recognised by the nation.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • Raise the flag at sunrise, ensuring it is fully unfurled and visible by first light.
    • Lower the flag at sunset, taking care to ensure it is brought down respectfully, and avoid letting it touch the ground.
    • If the flag is illuminated at night, it may remain raised, but ensure the light source adequately illuminates the flag.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Avoid flying the flag during severe weather conditions, including high winds, rain, or storms, as this can damage the fabric.
    • If inclement weather is forecast, take the flag down to protect it from unnecessary wear and tear.
    • Flags made from durable materials like knitted polyester can withstand moderate weather, but always err on the side of caution.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the flag becomes worn or damaged beyond repair, it is important to retire it respectfully.
    • The proper method for retirement includes burning the flag in a dignified manner, ensuring that the ashes are treated with respect.
    • You may also choose to contact local veterans’ organisations or flag retirement ceremonies, which often have guidelines for proper disposal.

Following these guidelines will help keep your flag looking vibrant and pristine. Proper flag care is a tribute to the pride and heritage it represents.
