1. Cleaning:
   • Gentle Washing: Use a mild detergent when washing the flag to help preserve its colours. Avoid bleach or any harsh chemicals that could cause fading.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
   • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid using a tumble dryer, as high heat can damage the fabric or cause shrinkage.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place to avoid moisture damage.
3. Folding the Laos Flag:
   • Prepare the Flag: Place the flag on a clean, flat surface, ensuring there is enough room to fold it carefully without creasing or damaging the fabric.
   • First Lengthwise Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise so that the top edge meets the bottom edge. Make sure the fold is smooth, aligning the edges neatly.
   • Second Lengthwise Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise again, bringing the bottom edge to meet the top. This results in a long, narrow strip, ensuring all edges are aligned.
   • Begin Horizontal Folding: Fold one end of the flag towards the centre, creating a compact square or rectangle shape.
   • Complete the Fold: Continue folding in a similar manner until the flag is neatly compacted. Take care to keep all edges even for a tidy finish.
   • Store Carefully: Once folded, place the flag in a protective cover or bag, keeping it safe from dust and moisture for long-term preservation.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp or abrasive surfaces that could cause tears or snags.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is fastened securely when displayed to prevent strain on the fabric.

Flying the Laos Flag:

• Raising the Flag
  • For flags with Header with Loops, attach the loops securely to the halyard clips, ensuring both top and bottom clips are fastened before raising the flag steadily to prevent twisting or tangling.
  • For flags with a Vertical Sleeve, slide the sleeve onto the pole, ensuring the flag sits snugly and is positioned at the desired height. Gently pull the flag upwards to avoid creases, and adjust as needed for a smooth, even display.
  • Always raise the Laos flag respectfully and smoothly, avoiding any abrupt or jerky movements. The flag should be raised briskly to the top of the pole to signify pride and respect.
• Displaying the Flag
  • The Laos flag should be displayed in a position of prominence, either at the highest point or at the centre if among other flags.
  • Ensure the flag is always properly secured and free from obstruction. The flag should hang or fly fully unfurled, with no part touching the ground or any surrounding objects.
• Flying the Flag at Half-Mast
  • When flown at half-mast as a sign of mourning, raise the flag to the peak momentarily before lowering it to half-mast.
  • Position the flag so that it sits one flag width down from the top of the pole. At the end of the day or when the period of mourning ends, raise it back to the peak before lowering it completely.
• Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
  • The Laos flag should be hoisted in the morning after sunrise and lowered before sunset, especially if there is no dedicated lighting for nighttime display.
  • For nighttime displays, ensure the flag is well-lit with a spotlight or other light source to honour its presence after dark.
• Weather Conditions
  • Take down the flag during severe or adverse weather, such as heavy rain, wind, or storms, to prevent damage to the fabric and maintain its condition.
  • In extreme sunlight, if the flag shows signs of wear or fading, consider taking it down temporarily to preserve its colour and quality.
• Retirement of the Flag
  • When the Laos flag becomes worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully. Many choose to dispose of it by burning or another dignified method.
