For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the Israel flag, please follow these care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Always clean the flag using a mild detergent to reduce fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could harm the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Refrain from tumble drying, as high heat can shrink or damage the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep the flag in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture-related damage.
  3. Folding the Israel Flag:
    • Prepare a Clean Surface: Lay the flag on a clean, flat surface with the blue Star of David facing downwards to protect the design.
    • Initial Lengthwise Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the two edges carefully. This will create a long rectangle.
    • Reinforce the Fold: Smooth out any wrinkles along the fold to ensure a crisp edge, making it easier to manage.
    • Second Lengthwise Fold: Take the folded flag and fold it in half lengthwise again, bringing the two shorter edges together to create a narrower rectangle.
    • Begin Triangular Folds: Starting from the hoist side, create a triangular fold by bringing the bottom right corner up to the top edge of the flag. Ensure the fold is sharp and well-defined.
    • Alternate Triangular Folds: Continue folding in triangles, alternating the direction with each fold. After each triangular fold, press down firmly to keep the shape intact.
    • Secure the Ends: Once you reach the end of the flag, tuck any excess fabric into the folds to secure it neatly. This prevents the flag from unraveling.
    • Final Adjustment: Ensure all folds are even and tidy, adjusting as necessary to maintain the flag’s integrity and presentation.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Make sure the flag is properly fastened when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during extreme weather or overnight to maintain its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider patching the flag and consult a professional seamstress for repairs.
    • Replacement: If the flag shows significant signs of wear, think about purchasing a new one to ensure it looks its best during important events.

Flying the Israel Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Begin by ensuring that the flagpole is clean and free of obstructions.
    • Using the Header with Loops: If your flag features reinforced loops, thread the loops onto the flagpole and secure them with sister clips, ensuring a tight fit to prevent movement in the wind.
    • Using the Vertical Sleeve: For flags with a vertical sleeve, slide the flag onto the pole until it is positioned properly. Ensure that the flag is oriented correctly and secure it at the top if there is a locking mechanism.
    • Once at the top, ensure the flag is securely fastened to prevent it from slipping down or tangling in the wind.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • When displaying the flag, ensure it is hung vertically with the Star of David facing outward.
    • If the flag is to be displayed with other flags, ensure that the Israel flag is positioned to the right of the other flags, in accordance with the flag etiquette of precedence.
    • Maintain the flag’s visibility; avoid placing it in shaded areas or behind obstructions that could diminish its prominence.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it fully to the top of the pole before lowering it to the halfway point.
    • Ensure that the flag remains in a horizontal position without touching the ground.
    • Half-masting is a sign of mourning, so only display the flag in this position during designated periods of national mourning or upon official directives.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset, signifying respect for the symbol it represents.
    • If it is necessary to fly the flag overnight, ensure it is illuminated by a spotlight to maintain its visibility and honour.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Avoid flying the flag during severe weather conditions, such as strong winds or storms, as these can cause damage to the fabric.
    • In inclement weather, consider bringing the flag down to prevent tears or fraying, ensuring its longevity and appearance.
    • If flying the flag in rain or snow, ensure that the fabric is suitable for such conditions to avoid water damage.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the flag becomes worn or tattered, it should be retired respectfully. This can be done through a ceremonial burning or burial.
    • Ensure that the flag is disposed of in a dignified manner, reflecting the respect it has earned as a national symbol.
    • For retirement, consider holding a small ceremony to honour the flag and its representation of national pride.

By adhering to these guidelines, your flag will maintain its vibrant colours and remain in excellent condition for years to come. Caring for your flag is not only about preservation but also about honouring the pride and heritage it represents.
