Capture Isle of Man Pride with Our Knitted Polyester Isle of Man Flag

The Isle of Man, set in the Irish Sea, is celebrated for its Celtic and Norse heritage, scenic coasts, and vibrant Manx culture. Known for the famous TT motorcycle race, this island symbolises strength and pride. Our Knitted Polyester Isle of Man Flag captures this essence, making it perfect for showcasing your heritage.

The Isle of Man Flag:

The Isle of Man flag features a distinctive design. Here’s a closer look at its meaning:
  • Red Background: Symbolises the courage and strength of the islanders.
  • Triskelion (Three Legs): This ancient Celtic symbol, with three armored legs joined at the thigh, reflects the motto “Quocunque Jeceris Stabit,” which translates to “Whithersoever you throw it, it will stand,” symbolising resilience and adaptability.
  • Armoured Legs: The armour emphasises the island’s readiness to face challenges and its historical battles for independence.

Available Finishes:

  • Header with Loops: Reinforced loops at the top ensure secure attachment, complemented by convenient sister clips for strong and stable flagpole or rope mounting.
  • Vertical Sleeve: A discreet sleeve along the side allows for easy sliding onto flagpoles with diameters up to 28mm. If you need a different diameter, please contact us for custom sleeve options.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the Isle of Man flag, please follow these care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Always clean the flag using a mild detergent to minimise fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could harm the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, opt for a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Refrain from tumble drying, as high heat can shrink or damage the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry, and secure location to avoid moisture damage.
  3. Folding the Isle of Man Flag:
    • Prepare the Flag: Lay the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface with the design facing downwards to protect its colours.
    • First Fold: Take the bottom edge of the flag and fold it up towards the top edge, aligning the edges perfectly to create a horizontal crease.
    • Second Fold: With the flag still folded, take the right side and fold it over to meet the left side, creating a smaller rectangle.
    • Third Fold: Fold the flag in half again by bringing the bottom edge up towards the top, ensuring all edges align neatly.
    • Final Touch: For a compact finish, fold the flag from the bottom upwards towards the top, making sure it maintains its rectangular shape for easy storage.
    • Store Safely: Place the folded flag in a cool, dry area, ensuring it is kept away from moisture and direct sunlight to preserve its vibrant colours.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly secured when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Bring the flag down during extreme weather or overnight to maintain its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider having the flag repaired by a professional seamstress.
    • Replacement: When the flag shows significant wear, think about purchasing a new one to keep its appearance intact during important occasions.

Flying the Isle of Man Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Begin by ensuring that the flagpole is clean and free from any obstructions.
    • Header with Loops: If using the header with loops, feed the halyard through the reinforced loops at the top of the flag, ensuring it is securely attached before raising.
    • Vertical Sleeve: For the vertical sleeve option, slide the flag into the sleeve, ensuring the flag is oriented correctly, then hoist it up the flagpole, adjusting it as needed for a smooth appearance.
    • Make sure the flag is fully unfurled to display its design clearly.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • Ensure that the Isle of Man Flag is flown at eye level or higher, especially when displayed alongside other flags.
    • If displaying multiple flags, arrange them according to protocol, with the Isle of Man Flag at the same height or in a position of honour.
    • Maintain a respectful distance from other flags to ensure visibility and prevent tangling.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise the flag to the top of the pole and then lower it halfway down, creating a visible distinction.
    • Ensure the flag is securely fastened in this position to avoid any slipping.
    • This practice is often used to honour a significant event or memorial, so do so with respect and in accordance with local guidelines.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • It is customary to raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset.
    • To honour the flag, perform these actions with dignity, ideally accompanied by a moment of silence or a salute.
    • When lowering the flag, take care to fold it properly before storing it away, maintaining its condition for future use.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Check the weather forecast before displaying the flag; avoid flying it during severe weather conditions such as storms, high winds, or heavy rain.
    • If extreme weather is forecasted, lower the flag and store it safely to prevent damage.
    • In less severe weather, consider using a flag made from durable materials to withstand outdoor elements.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the flag becomes worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
    • The preferred method of retirement is to burn the flag in a dignified manner, ensuring it is done in a safe and appropriate location.
    • After retirement, consider replacing it with a new flag to continue displaying your national pride.

By following these guidelines, your flag will maintain its vibrant colours and stay in excellent condition for many years. Caring for your flag is not just about preservation; it’s also about honouring the pride and heritage it represents.
