To ensure lasting quality and vibrant colours of your Indonesia flag, please adhere to the following care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Always wash the flag using a mild detergent to minimise fading. Steer clear of bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag to avoid snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Refrain from tumble drying, as high temperatures may shrink or harm the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage.
  3. Folding the Indonesia Flag:
    • Preparation: Begin by laying the flag on a flat surface, ensuring it is clean and free of dirt or debris, with the front side facing down.
    • First Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. Make sure the edges are aligned properly for a neat fold.
    • Second Fold: Fold the flag in half again lengthwise, so the folded edge is on top. This will create a narrower strip that is easier to manage.
    • Creating the Triangles: Starting from one end of the flag, make a triangular fold by bringing the bottom corner up towards the top edge, forming a triangle.
    • Repeat the Triangle Folds: Continue folding the flag in triangles, working your way along the length until you reach the end of the flag. Ensure each triangular fold overlaps the previous one to keep it compact.
    • Final Adjustment: Once you reach the end, tuck any excess fabric into the last triangular fold to secure the flag and maintain its shape.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is firmly attached when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Remove the flag during extreme weather conditions or overnight to maintain its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider replacing the flag and consult a professional seamstress for repairs on the damaged one.
    • Replacement: When the flag shows significant wear, think about purchasing a new one to ensure it looks its best during important events.

Flying the Indonesia Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Ensure the flag is clean and free from any damage before raising it.
    • Position the flagpole securely and ensure it is stable.
    • Using Header with Loops: If your flag has reinforced loops, thread the halyard through the loops before securing it to the pole. This ensures a secure fit while allowing the flag to fly freely.
    • Using Vertical Sleeve: For flags with a vertical sleeve, slide the flag down onto the flagpole until it reaches the desired height. Ensure the sleeve is securely fastened at the top of the pole to prevent it from slipping down.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • The Indonesian flag should be flown with the red stripe on top, followed by the white stripe below.
    • Ensure the flag is fully extended and not tangled or wrapped around the pole.
    • Display the flag prominently, at a height where it can be easily seen and appreciated by all.
    • If displaying multiple flags, position the Indonesian flag at the centre or the highest point in the arrangement.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the peak of the pole and then lower it to the halfway point.
    • This gesture is typically used to honour deceased individuals or mark a period of mourning.
    • Ensure the flag is properly secured in the half-mast position to prevent it from slipping back to the top.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset, marking the beginning and end of each day.
    • If it is necessary to leave the flag up overnight, ensure it is properly illuminated, as per flag etiquette.
    • When lowering the flag, do so slowly and respectfully, ensuring it does not touch the ground.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Avoid flying the flag in inclement weather conditions, such as heavy rain, storms, or high winds, as this can damage the fabric.
    • If extreme weather is expected, take the flag down in advance to preserve its quality.
    • If the flag gets wet, allow it to dry thoroughly before folding or storing it to prevent mildew or damage.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the flag is worn, torn, or no longer suitable for display, it should be retired respectfully.
    • The proper method of retirement is to burn the flag in a dignified manner, following local customs or regulations regarding flag disposal.
    • Alternatively, consult with local organisations, such as veterans’ groups, that may have formal flag retirement ceremonies.

Adhering to these care guidelines will ensure that your flag maintains its brilliant colours and stays in excellent condition for years to come. Proper flag care goes beyond mere maintenance; it reflects the respect and pride associated with the heritage it symbolises.
