Our Knitted Polyester India Flag embodies the spirit of this vibrant nation, making it an ideal choice for proudly displaying your national pride.

The India Flag:

The Indian flag, known as the Tiranga, is a symbol of unity and integrity. Its design holds significant meaning, representing various ideals:
  • Saffron: The top band represents courage and sacrifice.
  • White: The middle band symbolises peace and truth.
  • Green: The bottom band represents the land’s fertility, growth, and auspiciousness.
  • Chakra: In the center of the white band is a navy-blue wheel with 24 spokes, known as the chakra. The chakra is based on the wheel from the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the India flag, please follow these care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Always use a mild detergent when washing the flag to help prevent fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could harm the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not use a tumble dryer, as high temperatures may shrink or damage the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage.
  3. Folding the India Flag:
    • Prepare the Surface: Place the flag on a clean, flat surface with the front side facing down.
    • First Fold: Take the hoist side (the side with the flagpole attachment) and fold it towards the opposite edge, aligning the edges to create a long rectangle.
    • Second Fold: Fold the flag in half lengthwise again, ensuring the edges remain aligned, which will create a narrower rectangle.
    • Triangular Folds: Starting from the hoist side, make a triangular fold by bringing the bottom corner of the rectangle up to meet the top edge, forming a triangle. Crease the fold firmly.
    • Continue Folding: Take the newly formed triangle and fold it over itself, repeating the process until you reach the end of the flag. Each fold should create a neat triangle that overlaps the previous one.
    • Final Adjustment: Tuck any loose fabric into the final fold to ensure a tidy appearance.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that could cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly fastened when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Bring the flag inside during extreme weather conditions or overnight to preserve its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider replacing the flag and taking the damaged one to a professional seamstress for repair.
    • Replacement: If the flag shows significant wear, it’s advisable to purchase a new one to maintain its appearance during important occasions.

Flying the India Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Begin by ensuring the flag is clean and free from any damage.
    • Using the Header with Loops:
      • Ensure the reinforced loops at the top of the flag are securely attached to the hooks or clips on the flagpole.
      • Adjust the flag to ensure it hangs freely without any obstruction or twisting.
    • Using the Vertical Sleeve:
      • Slide the flag into the vertical sleeve, ensuring it fits snugly but not too tightly.
      • Secure the sleeve to the pole, ensuring that the flag can slide up and down easily without becoming stuck.
    • Take a moment to pause when the flag reaches the top to honour its significance before securing the flag.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • Ensure that the flag is flown in a prominent position where it can be clearly seen and appreciated.
    • The flag should always be displayed at full height and never allowed to touch the ground.
    • When hanging the flag, ensure the saffron band is on top, with the white and green bands below, and the Ashoka Chakra facing forward.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • When flying the flag at half-mast to honour a national tragedy or significant event, first raise it to the top of the pole before lowering it to half-mast.
    • The flag should be positioned halfway down the flagpole, symbolising mourning and respect.
    • When lowering the flag back to full height, again raise it to the top before bringing it down completely.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • The flag should be raised at sunrise and taken down at sunset to honour its significance.
    • If the flag is illuminated during the night, it may be flown continuously, but ensure it remains in pristine condition.
    • Always take care when handling the flag during these times, showing respect as you raise or lower it.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Avoid flying the flag during severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain, storms, or strong winds, to prevent damage.
    • If adverse weather is forecasted, consider bringing the flag down to protect its integrity.
    • In general, a flag made of durable materials can withstand various weather conditions, but care should always be taken to maintain its appearance.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the flag is worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired in a respectful manner.
    • The preferred method of retirement is to burn the flag in a dignified ceremony, allowing it to be disposed of with respect.
    • Ensure that any remains are collected and disposed of properly, honouring the flag and what it represents.

By following these guidelines, your flag will maintain its vibrant colours and remain in excellent condition for many years. Caring for your flag is not only about preservation but also about honouring the pride and heritage it represents.
