For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the Guinea flag, please follow these care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Always use a mild detergent when washing the flag to reduce fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may harm the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to dry naturally. Avoid tumble drying, as high temperatures can shrink or damage the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is fully dry before putting it away. Store it in a cool, dry, and secure location to avoid any moisture damage.
  3. Folding the Guinea Flag:
    • Start by laying the flag on a clean, flat surface, ensuring it is free of dirt and debris.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the edges carefully to create a crease down the centre.
    • With the flag still folded in half, bring the top edge down to meet the bottom edge, creating a smaller rectangle.
    • Starting from the hoist side (the side where the flag is attached to the pole), fold the flag into a triangle by bringing the top corner down to meet the bottom edge, forming a triangle shape.
    • Continue folding the triangle by bringing the bottom corner up to the top edge, creating another triangle. Ensure each fold is neat and aligned.
    • Repeat the triangular folds until the entire flag is folded, making sure to tuck any loose ends into the folds to secure them.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is firmly attached when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during extreme weather or overnight to maintain its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider replacing the flag and consult a professional seamstress for repairs.
    • Replacement: If the flag shows significant wear, it may be time to purchase a new one to maintain its appearance during important occasions.

Flying the Guinea Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Begin by ensuring that the flagpole is clean and free from obstructions.
    • Using Header with Loops: If your flag features a header with loops, slide the loops onto the flagpole before raising it. Ensure they are evenly spaced and secured before raising the flag.
    • Using Vertical Sleeve: For flags with a vertical sleeve, simply slide the flag onto the pole, ensuring it fits snugly. Once in place, raise the flag to the desired height.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • When displaying the flag, ensure it is hung vertically with the red stripe on the top, representing the blood of the nation.
    • For horizontal displays, the flag should be oriented so that the red stripe is at the left when facing the flag.
    • Avoid displaying the flag in a way that allows it to touch the ground or any surface below.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the pole briefly, then lower it halfway down.
    • This gesture signifies mourning or respect and should be observed during national days of mourning or upon the death of significant figures.
    • Always lower the flag fully to the ground before raising it again after the half-mast display.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • The flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset. If the flag is illuminated during the night, it may remain up after dark.
    • When lowering the flag, do so ceremoniously by folding it neatly before storing, reflecting respect for the national symbol.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Monitor weather conditions before flying the flag. It is advisable to lower the flag during severe weather, including strong winds or storms, to prevent damage.
    • Avoid flying the flag in extreme conditions such as heavy rain or high winds to maintain its integrity and appearance.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the flag becomes worn or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired respectfully.
    • The preferred method is to burn the flag in a dignified ceremony, ensuring that it is done safely and with respect.
    • Alternatively, you may contact local veteran organisations or flag disposal programs that provide proper retirement services.

By following these guidelines, your flag will maintain its vibrant colours and stay in excellent condition for many years. Caring for your flag is not just about preservation; it’s also about honouring the pride and heritage it represents.
