Wave Your Eritrean Spirit with Our Knitted Polyester Eritrea Flag

Eritrea is known for its rich cultural diversity, stunning landscapes, and a long history of resilience and independence. Located on the Horn of Africa, it has a vibrant heritage that combines influences from both African and Middle Eastern cultures. Our Knitted Polyester Eritrea Flag embodies these rich cultural elements, offering a vibrant and durable way to express your national pride.

The Eritrea Flag:

The flag of Eritrea symbolises the nation’s struggle for independence and the hope for peace and unity. Each element of the flag has a deep meaning:
  • Red Triangle: The red triangle symbolises the bloodshed and sacrifices made during the fight for independence.
  • Green Triangle: This section highlights the importance of Eritrea’s agriculture and livestock, representing the nation’s natural resources.
  • Blue Triangle: Symbolising Eritrea’s maritime resources, the blue triangle reflects the country’s connection to the Red Sea.
  • Yellow Wreath and Olive Branch: Encircling the olive branch are 30 leaves, representing the 30 years of civil war that eventually led to Eritrea’s independence.

Available Finishes:

  • Header with Loops: Designed with sturdy loops at the top of the flag, this finish includes durable sister clips, providing a reliable and secure method for attaching the flag to poles or ropes.
  • Vertical Sleeve: Featuring a discreet sleeve along the side, this option easily slides onto flagpoles with diameters up to 28mm. If you need a sleeve for a different size, simply reach out to us, and we’ll customise it to your requirements.

To maintain the vibrant colours and ensure the longevity of the Eritrea flag, please adhere to the following care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Always wash the flag using a mild detergent to prevent fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that may harm the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to avoid snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not use a tumble dryer, as high heat can shrink or damage the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture damage.
  3. Folding the Eritrea Flag:
    • Begin by laying the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface, ensuring it is completely unfolded and free from any wrinkles.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the edges neatly while ensuring the colours are facing outwards.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise once more, keeping the colours on the outside. This will create a long, narrow strip.
    • Starting from one end, make triangular folds by taking the bottom edge and folding it diagonally towards the top edge, creating a triangle.
    • Continue folding in this manner, ensuring each fold tucks the raw edges of the flag inside, maintaining a clean and tidy appearance.
    • Once you reach the end of the flag, adjust the folds as needed to ensure the flag is compact and neatly tucked away.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp items or rough surfaces that could cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is firmly attached when displayed to prevent unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Bring the flag indoors during severe weather or overnight to help preserve its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, replace the flag and consult a professional seamstress for repairs.
    • Replacement: When the flag exhibits significant wear, consider purchasing a new one to maintain its appearance during important events.

Flying the Eritrea Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Begin by ensuring the flag is fully unfolded and free of any creases or knots.
    • Attach the flag securely to the flagpole using the chosen finish (header with loops or vertical sleeve).
    • Raise the flag briskly, ensuring it reaches the top of the pole without hesitation, symbolising pride and respect.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • Position the flag at an appropriate height to ensure it is visible from all angles, typically at least 1.5 to 2 metres off the ground.
    • The Eritrea flag should be displayed with the red triangle with the olive branch and wreath are oriented from the viewer’s left side.
    • Ensure the flag is not touching the ground or any other surfaces, as this represents disrespect.
    • If displaying multiple flags, ensure the Eritrea flag is positioned at the centre or at the highest point, maintaining its prominence.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the flagpole and then lower it slowly to the designated half-mast position.
    • The flag should be lowered to a point that is equal to the width of the flag, ensuring it maintains visibility.
    • When the period of mourning is over, raise the flag back to the top of the pole before bringing it down.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • It is customary to raise the flag at sunrise and lower it at sunset, following the natural light of day.
    • Ensure the flag is hoisted promptly at dawn and taken down immediately at dusk, reflecting the respect associated with the flag.
    • If the flag is illuminated at night, it may be flown after sunset, but it should be properly illuminated to showcase its colours.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Avoid flying the flag in severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain, strong winds, or snow, as these can damage the fabric.
    • During adverse weather, it’s best to take the flag down to preserve its condition and prevent wear.
    • If flying in a windy area, consider using a flagpole designed for high winds to ensure durability and prevent tearing.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the flag becomes worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it is important to retire it respectfully.
    • The flag should be folded properly and burned in a dignified manner, or buried in a ceremony to signify the respect owed to the symbol.
    • Always ensure that the retirement process is done in accordance with local laws and customs regarding flag disposal.

By following these guidelines, your flag will retain its vibrant colours and remain in excellent condition for many years. Caring for your flag is not just about preservation but also about honouring the pride and heritage it represents.
