For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the Bangladesh flag, please follow these care guidelines:
- Cleaning:
- Wash Gently: Always use a mild detergent when washing the flag to help preserve its colours. Avoid using bleach or any harsh chemicals.
- Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
- Drying: Air dry the flag by laying it flat or hanging it. Avoid tumble drying as high heat can cause shrinkage and damage the fabric.
- Storage:
- Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry, and safe location.
- Folding the Bangladesh Flag:
- Start by holding the flag horizontally, ensuring the green field is facing up, and the red disc is positioned correctly.
- Carefully fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the top edge down to meet the bottom edge. Make sure the red disc remains visible and centred.
- Fold the flag in half lengthwise once more, aligning the edges neatly. The red disc should now appear on both sides of the fold.
- Starting from the opposite end of the red disc, fold a small triangle by bringing the corner of the folded edge over to meet the opposite side. Continue folding in a triangular pattern until you reach the end of the flag.
- Once you’ve reached the end, tuck any remaining fabric into the fold to ensure the flag is securely and neatly folded.
- Inspect the folded flag to ensure the red disc is still visible and the folds are tight and secure, symbolising the respect and honour the flag deserves.
- Handling:
- Protect from Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or surfaces that could cause tears, snags, or abrasions.
- Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly hoisted and free to fly.
- Flag Exposure: Minimise exposure to the elements by lowering the flag in the evening or during extreme weather conditions.
- Repairs:
- Minor Repairs: If you notice any wear, tear, or fraying, remove the flag promptly, and take it to a professional seamstress for repair.
- Replacement: When your flag shows signs of ageing, consider ordering a new one to ensure you’re always prepared for upcoming events or commemorations.
Flying the Bangladesh Flag:
- Raising the Flag
- Hoist Briskly: Raise the Bangladesh flag briskly and with respect, ensuring it is unfurled smoothly without any snags or twists.
- Proper Handling: Make sure the flag never touches the ground while being raised. It should be handled with utmost care to maintain its dignity.
- Correct Positioning: Always raise the flag so that the red disc is positioned correctly—centrally aligned and prominent against the green background.
- Displaying the Flag
- Prominent Position: The Bangladesh flag should be displayed in a prominent position, ideally at the highest point when flown with other flags, or to the viewer’s left when displayed with other national flags.
- Indoor Display: When displayed indoors, the flag should be positioned to the left of the speaker or at the centre of a backdrop.
- Avoid Obstructions: Ensure that the flag is not obscured by any objects, and it should always be visible in its entirety.
- Flying the Flag Half-Mast
- Respectful Lowering: To fly the Bangladesh flag at half-mast, first raise it to the peak for a moment and then lower it to a position halfway between the top and bottom of the flagpole.
- Return to Peak: When lowering the flag from half-mast, raise it back to the peak before fully lowering it.
- Occasions for Half-Mast: The flag should be flown at half-mast on national days of mourning or as directed by the government.
- Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset
- Sunrise Protocol: The flag should be raised at sunrise or as early as possible, ensuring it is always hoisted with the proper ceremonial respect.
- Sunset Protocol: Lower the flag before sunset unless it is illuminated. The flag should be taken down slowly and ceremoniously, reflecting the respect it commands.
- Illumination: If the flag is flown at night, it should be illuminated with a focused light to ensure it remains visible and respected even in the dark.
- Weather Conditions
- Avoid Harsh Weather: The flag should not be flown during severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or storms to prevent damage and show respect.
- Prompt Removal: If inclement weather is expected, lower the flag promptly to prevent it from being torn or damaged.
- Drying and Care: If the flag does get wet, make sure to dry it properly before storage to avoid any mildew or damage to the fabric.
- Retirement of the Flag
- Proper Disposal: When the Bangladesh flag becomes worn, tattered, or faded, it should be retired respectfully and never thrown away in the rubbish.
- Retirement Ceremony: Consider holding a flag retirement ceremony where the flag is folded neatly, and then burned in a dignified manner, or it can be buried in a proper and respectful manner.
- Replacement: Replace the old flag with a new one to continue honouring the national symbol with pride and respect.
By adhering to these care instructions, you can ensure that your flag remains vibrant and durable for years to come. Your flag symbolises your pride in Bangladesh, reflecting your respect and dedication to your heritage.
