American Samoa is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant traditions. This beautiful archipelago in the South Pacific is celebrated for its traditional Samoan culture, which includes elaborate tattoo art, lively traditional dances, and a warm, welcoming community. Our Knitted Polyester American Samoa Flag captures the essence of this vibrant island nation, making it perfect for showcasing your pride.

The American Samoa Flag:

The American Samoa Flag is a symbol of national pride and unity. Its design includes:
  • Red, White, and Blue Colors: These colours are traditional to both the United States and Samoa, representing their individual cultures and the unity between them.
  • A blue triangle: Positioned in the hoist, symbolising the protection and guidance of the United States.
  • The Bald Eagle: The eagle represents the United States, and its presence on the flag alludes to the U.S.’s guardianship over American Samoa. The eagle holds two traditional Samoan symbols in its talons:
    • Fly Whisk (Fue): Symbolising the wisdom of Samoa’s traditional chiefs.
    • War Club (Uatogi): Representing the power of the state.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the American Samoa Flag, please adhere to the following care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to avoid fading, and never use bleach or similar products on the flag.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, choose a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to prevent snags.
    • Drying: Air dry the flag by laying it flat or hanging it up. Avoid tumble drying as high heat can cause shrinkage and damage the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent mildew and damage.
  3. Folding the American Samoa Flag:
    • Begin by spreading the flag out on a clean, flat surface with the design facing up.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, aligning the two long edges together. Smooth out any wrinkles to ensure a neat fold.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise again, making a narrower strip. Ensure the edges are aligned and smooth.
    • Starting from the short end, fold the flag into a triangle by bringing the bottom edge up to the top fold. Continue folding in triangular sections until the entire flag is folded into a compact triangle.
    • Tuck any loose edges neatly into the triangular folds, ensuring a crisp and tidy finish.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp surfaces and objects that could cause snags, tears, or abrasions.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly hoisted and free from obstructions.
    • Flag Exposure: Minimise exposure to harsh weather conditions by taking the flag down during extreme weather or in the evening.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, replace the flag with a spare and have it professionally repaired by a seamstress.
    • Replacement: When the flag shows significant wear, consider ordering a new one to ensure you always have a fresh flag for important events.

Flying the American Samoa Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Ensure the flag is clean and free from wrinkles before raising it. Attach the flag securely to the flagpole using the appropriate fittings or clips.
    • Raise the flag briskly to the top of the pole. The flag should be flown aloft and free, ensuring it does not touch the ground or get caught in the pole.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • Display the flag with the blue triangle positioned to the hoist side (the side attached to the pole). Ensure the flag is fully extended and not bunched or folded.
    • The flag should be clearly visible from a distance, and should not be obscured by other objects or flags.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the flag at half-mast, first raise the flag to the top of the pole. Then, lower it to the halfway point. When lowering the flag back to full-mast, raise it to the top first before taking it down.
    • Follow official guidelines for the duration of half-mast periods, which are usually specified for particular events or observances.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • Raise the flag at sunrise or when the first light of day appears, ensuring it is fully hoisted by the time the sun rises.
    • Lower the flag at sunset or before dark. Ensure the flag is removed from the pole promptly if not illuminated by a light source during night-time.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • The flag can be displayed in standard weather conditions, but should be taken down during severe weather to prevent damage.
    • Avoid flying the flag during heavy rain, high winds, or storms. Store the flag safely until the weather improves to prevent potential wear and tear.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • Regularly inspect the flag for signs of wear, fading, or damage.
    • When the flag is no longer in a suitable condition, retire it respectfully. Follow local guidelines for flag disposal, which often involves ceremonial burning or turning it in to a recognised flag disposal service.

By following these care instructions, you can maintain the vibrant colours and durability of your American Samoa Flag, reflecting your pride and respect for your heritage.
