Afghanistan, renowned for its rich history and cultural diversity, features stunning landscapes that include rugged mountains, historic monuments, and a tapestry of ethnic traditions. This nation has long been celebrated for its contributions to art, literature, and architecture, with historic sites like Herat and Bamiyan. Celebrate this heritage with our Knitted Polyester Afghanistan Flag, a perfect symbol of national pride and spirit.

The Afghanistan Flag:

The Afghanistan flag is a profound symbol of the nation’s identity and values. It features three vertical stripes of black, red, and green, each with its own significant meaning:
  • Black: Represents the challenging history of the 19th century when Afghanistan was a protected state.
  • Red: Symbolises the sacrifices and bloodshed of those who fought for independence, notably during the Anglo-Afghan Treaty of 1919.
  • Green: Reflects the hope and optimism for a prosperous future.
The flag’s central emblem, which includes a mosque and a minaret, underscores Afghanistan’s Islamic heritage and commitment to peace and unity.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours, kindly adhere to the following care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Wash the flag using mild detergent to prevent fading. Avoid bleach or any harsh cleaning products that could damage the fabric.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is required, use cold water on a gentle cycle. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snags.
    • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not tumble dry, as high heat may shrink or damage the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Make sure the flag is completely dry before storing it in a cool, dry, and safe location to prevent mildew or fabric deterioration.
  3. Folding the Afghanistan Flag:
    • Lay the Afghanistan flag flat on a clean surface. Ensure that the emblem and colours are facing upwards, with the black stripe at the left side. Make sure the flag is smooth and free of wrinkles.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, bringing the bottom towards the top. Ensure the edges of the flag are aligned evenly, and the emblem remains visible.
    • Fold the flag lengthwise again, bringing the bottom edge up to meet the top edge. At this stage, the emblem should still be visible along the fold, now narrower in width.
    • Begin folding the flag crosswise, starting from the fly end (the outer edge farthest from the pole). Fold the end towards the hoist side (the side where the flag attaches to the pole) into a neat quarter. Align the edges carefully.
    • Fold the flag once more in the same direction, towards the hoist side, making the flag a compact rectangle. Ensure the emblem is still visible on top.
    • Continue folding in small sections crosswise until the flag becomes a neat, compact rectangle. Make sure no part of the flag touches the ground during this process to show respect for its symbolism.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp surfaces that could cause snags, tears, or abrasions.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is properly secured to prevent sagging or entanglement.
    • Flag Exposure: Reduce prolonged exposure to harsh weather by taking down the flag during extreme conditions or at night.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: Should you notice any fraying or small tears, replace the flag with a spare and seek professional repair from a seamstress.
    • Replacement: As the flag begins to show signs of wear, consider ordering a new one for upcoming events or celebrations to ensure your flag always looks its best.

Flying the Afghanistan Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • When raising the Afghanistan flag, ensure that it is hoisted swiftly and respectfully. The black stripe, which represents Afghanistan’s history, should be positioned at the hoist side, followed by the red and green stripes.
    • Always make sure the flag is raised without it touching the ground. This demonstrates respect for the flag’s symbolism and honours the values of Afghanistan.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • The Afghanistan flag should be flown in a prominent position, higher than any other flag when displayed alongside non-national flags. When displayed with other national flags, it should be given equal prominence.
    • Indoors, the flag should be placed in a position of honour, typically on the right side (from the perspective of the observer facing the flag) when displayed with other flags.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the Afghanistan flag at half-mast, raise it to the top of the pole first, and then lower it to a position halfway between the top and the bottom of the pole.
    • This is a mark of respect and mourning, usually during periods of national grief or on designated memorial days. Ensure the flag is treated with dignity during this period.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • The Afghanistan flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset. If flown at night, it must be properly illuminated. Leaving the flag up in the dark without lighting is considered disrespectful.
    • When lowering the flag at sunset, do so slowly and ceremoniously, ensuring it does not touch the ground.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Always check the weather before flying the flag. The Afghanistan flag should be taken down during extreme weather conditions such as high winds, storms, or heavy rain to prevent damage.
    • If the flag becomes wet, allow it to dry completely before raising it again to maintain its vibrant appearance and prolong its lifespan.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the Afghanistan flag becomes worn, torn, or faded, it should be retired with respect. The flag can either be burned in a ceremonial manner or buried. It should never be discarded in the rubbish. Before retirement, ensure you have a fresh flag ready to replace it.

By adhering to these care instructions, your Knitted Polyester Afghanistan Flag will retain its vibrant colours and durability, allowing you to display your pride for years to come. Remember, your flag symbolises Afghanistan’s rich heritage, and the respect you show in its care reflects the deep value you place on your national identity.

I've worked with Evan Evans constantly over the past few years and each time they demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, outstanding customer service and go above and beyond to ensure you are happy with the end result - could not recommend more highly!
I've been using Evan Evans for several years now and have NEVER had a poor experience. Rene and her team are always so friendly and helpful and go above and beyond with any questions I have. Over the years Evan Evans have helped me design and manufacture a number of different items, including GIANT 8 meter long flags, to plinth socks for the Cricket during the summer. This summer Rene spent a huge amount of time with me fine tuning the Australia and India (pictured) mats that were used at the cricket across Australia. 5 stars!!
The absolute best in the business wouldn't go elsewhere! Rene is a dream to work with and her attention to detail is meticulous!
Where are they made?
