1. Cleaning:
   • Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, as this helps preserve its colours and fabric. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the material.
   • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, place the flag in a mesh laundry bag and select a gentle cycle with cold water to prevent any harm.
   • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not use a tumble dryer, as high heat can shrink or damage the fabric.
2. Storage:
   • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing to avoid mould or mildew. Keep it in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight.
3. Folding the Iceland Flag:
   • Start by placing the flag flat on a clean, smooth surface with the printed side facing down. This prevents any creasing on the side that will be visible.
   • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, making sure the two shorter edges align so that the flag is reduced to half its original width. Keep the edges straight for a tidy fold.
   • Fold it in half again lengthwise, bringing the top edge down to meet the bottom edge. This results in a narrower strip while keeping the design safely tucked away.
   • Begin from the hoist side (the side where the flag attaches to the pole) and create triangular folds, similar to military folding techniques:
     • Take the bottom corner of the folded edge and bring it up to meet the opposite edge, forming a triangle.
     • Repeat this process by alternating sides, folding each triangle over the previous one until you reach the end of the flag.
   • Secure the final fold by tucking it into the previous fold or, if needed, use a small piece of tape to keep it compact.
4. Handling:
   • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces to prevent snags and tears.
   • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is securely fastened and able to move freely while displayed.

  • At sunset, lower the flag slowly and respectfully, making sure it doesn’t touch the ground.

  • Refrain from flying the flag during severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, strong winds, or storms, as these can damage the fabric.
