To ensure the longevity and vibrant appearance of your Grenada flag, follow these care instructions:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Wash Gently: Use a mild detergent to clean the flag, helping to preserve its colours and fabric quality. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, place the flag inside a mesh laundry bag and use a gentle cycle with cold water to prevent damage.
    • Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Do not tumble dry, as high heat may cause shrinkage or damage the material.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing to prevent mould or mildew. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  3. Folding the Grenada Flag:
    • Start by placing the flag on a clean, flat surface with the front facing down.
    • Fold the flag in half lengthwise, making sure the edges are aligned for a straight crease.
    • Fold it in half once more lengthwise, keeping the edges straight to create a more compact shape.
    • From the hoist side (the edge that attaches to the flagpole), fold the flag into a series of triangular sections, similar to how you would fold a paper flag, until you reach the opposite end.
    • Finally, tuck the last section of the flag into the last triangular fold to secure it, ensuring that it is neatly stored and protected.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects and rough surfaces to prevent snags and tears.
    • Secure Installation: Make sure the flag is securely fastened and has the freedom to move while displayed.
    • Flag Exposure: To extend the life of the flag, take it down during severe weather or at night to minimise exposure to harsh conditions.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: If you spot any fraying or wear, switch out the flag with a spare and arrange for the damaged flag to be repaired by a professional seamstress.
    • Replacement: When the flag reaches the end of its lifespan, consider purchasing a new one to ensure you always have a fresh flag for significant events.

Flying the Grenada Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Start by ensuring the flagpole is clean and devoid of any obstructions.
    • Using the Header with Loops: Pass the halyard through the reinforced loops at the top of the flag and fasten it securely to prevent slipping, especially in windy conditions.
    • Using the Vertical Sleeve: Insert the flag into the pocket of the vertical sleeve, making sure it is aligned properly. Securely attach the sleeve to the halyard.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • Place the flagpole in an open area where the flag can fly freely without interference from trees or buildings.
    • Ensure the flag is positioned prominently so that it can be easily seen and appreciated.
    • When displaying the flag either vertically or horizontally, always make sure that the flag’s design is oriented outward for proper visibility.
    • If you are flying multiple flags, display the Grenada flag in a place of honour—either to the right of the other flags or centrally if it is the only flag displayed.
  • Flying the Flag at Half-Mast:
    • To fly the Grenada flag at half-mast, first raise it to the top of the flagpole before lowering it to the halfway point.
    • Ensure the flag remains visible and does not touch the ground.
    • This practice is typically done to honour a person or significant event, so be sure to return the flag to full mast once the mourning period concludes.
  • Flag Etiquette at Sunrise and Sunset:
    • Always hoist the flag at sunrise and keep it displayed throughout the day until sunset.
    • At sunset, lower the flag with dignity and respect.
    • If you wish to display the flag overnight, ensure it is illuminated or take it down before nightfall.
  • Weather Considerations:
    • Refrain from flying the flag during severe weather conditions, such as heavy rain, strong winds, or storms, as these can damage the fabric.
    • If bad weather is imminent, consider lowering the flag to protect its condition.
    • In windy conditions, ensure the flag is securely fastened and regularly check for any signs of wear.
  • Retiring the Flag:
    • When the flag becomes worn or irreparably damaged, it should be retired with respect.
    • A common practice is to cut the flag into pieces, ensuring that the emblem and colours are no longer intact.
    • Consider holding a small ceremony to honour the flag’s service, followed by appropriate disposal methods, such as dignified burning or burial.

By following these care instructions, you’ll ensure that your Fully Sewn Grenada Flag remains vibrant, durable, and a symbol of pride for many years. Proper care reflects the respect you have for your heritage and nation.
