Fly the Flag of Australian History with Our Knitted Polyester Eureka Flag

The Knitted Polyester Eureka Flag is one of Australia’s most iconic symbols, representing the country’s rich history, the fight for workers’ rights, and the spirit of rebellion and independence. It is a powerful emblem of Australian heritage, first flown during the Eureka Stockade in 1854, a key event in the nation’s development.

The Eureka Flag:

The elements of the Eureka flag are rich with meaning:
  • Blue Background: Represents the Australian sky and the struggle for freedom.

  • Five Stars: Symbolise the five stars of the Southern Cross, which is a prominent feature in the Australian night sky.

Available Finishes:

  • Header with Loops: This finish is designed with sturdy loops at the top of the flag, paired with practical sister clips, ensuring a reliable and secure fit to flagpoles or ropes.

For lasting quality and vibrant colours of the flag, please follow these care guidelines:

  1. Cleaning:
    • Gentle Washing: Always wash the flag with a mild detergent to minimise fading. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the colours.
    • Machine Wash: If machine washing is necessary, select a gentle cycle with cold water. Place the flag in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from snagging.
    • Air Drying: Lay the flag flat or hang it to air dry. Avoid tumble drying, as high heat may cause shrinkage or damage to the fabric.
  2. Storage:
    • Proper Storage: Ensure the flag is completely dry before storing. Keep the flag in a cool, dry, and safe place to prevent moisture damage.
  3. Folding the Eureka Flag:
    • Start by laying the flag flat with the design facing down on a clean, flat surface.
    • Fold the flag lengthwise in half, bringing the two long edges together, ensuring the fabric remains smooth and even.
    • Fold the flag in half again lengthwise, keeping the design facing inward to protect it from any potential damage.
    • Continue folding the flag in a fan-like manner, folding it into thirds or quarters, depending on the desired size for storage.
    • Ensure that each fold is neat and crisp to avoid creases or damage to the fabric.
  4. Handling:
    • Avoid Sharp Objects: Keep the flag away from sharp objects or rough surfaces that may cause snags or tears.
    • Secure Installation: Ensure the flag is securely fastened when displayed to avoid unnecessary strain on the fabric.
    • Minimise Exposure: Take the flag down during extreme weather or overnight to preserve its condition.
  5. Repairs:
    • Minor Repairs: For small tears or fraying, consider taking the flag to a professional seamstress for repairs.
    • Replacement: When the flag shows significant wear, consider purchasing a new one to maintain its appearance during important occasions.

Flying the Eureka Flag:

  • Raising the Flag:
    • Begin by ensuring the flagpole is secure and free from obstructions.
    • If your Eureka Flag has a header with loops, attach the reinforced loops to the halyard using sister clips. Ensure the flag is securely fastened and can move freely along the rope as it is raised.
    • If your Eureka Flag has a vertical sleeve, slide the sleeve over the flagpole, ensuring the flag is centred and hangs evenly. Secure the sleeve at the top of the pole to prevent any slipping or movement while raising the flag.
    • Slowly raise the flag, ensuring it is fully extended and not touching the ground. The flag should be raised briskly and without hesitation to demonstrate respect.
  • Displaying the Flag:
    • The Eureka Flag should be displayed with the design facing outward and clearly visible to all.
    • Ensure the flag is flown in a prominent position, such as on a flagpole or at a public event, to honour its historical significance.
    • Never allow the flag to touch the ground or be used as a surface for sitting or standing on, as it is a symbol of respect and pride.
  • Flying the Flag Half-Mast:
    • To fly the Eureka Flag at half-mast, first raise the flag to the top of the pole before lowering it halfway down.
    • This is typically done to honour a solemn occasion, such as a national day of mourning or remembrance.
    • When the period of mourning is over, raise the flag back to the top of the pole before lowering it for the day.
  • Flag Etiquette During Sunrise and Sunset:
    • The Eureka Flag should be raised at sunrise and lowered at sunset, ensuring it is never flown after dark unless illuminated.
    • If the flag is displayed overnight, ensure it is properly lit to maintain respect for the symbol.
    • If flying multiple flags, the Eureka Flag should always be flown in the most prominent position, either at the top or centre of the pole.
  • Weather Conditions:
    • Avoid flying the Eureka Flag during extreme weather conditions, such as heavy rain, strong winds, or snow, as this can damage the fabric.
    • If the weather is too severe, it is respectful to lower the flag until conditions improve.
    • Always ensure the flag is securely fastened to prevent it from becoming torn or damaged in harsh conditions.
  • Retirement of the Flag:
    • When the Eureka Flag becomes worn, faded, or damaged beyond repair, it should be retired in a respectful manner.
    • The flag can be ceremoniously folded and then respectfully burned or disposed of in a dignified manner, ensuring it is not desecrated.
    • If you are unsure of the proper retirement process, consult local guidelines or organisations to ensure the flag is retired with the respect it deserves.

By following these guidelines, your flag will retain its vibrant colours and remain in top condition for many years. Taking care of your flag is not just about preservation but also about honouring the significance it represents.

I've worked with Evan Evans constantly over the past few years and each time they demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, outstanding customer service and go above and beyond to ensure you are happy with the end result - could not recommend more highly!
I've been using Evan Evans for several years now and have NEVER had a poor experience. Rene and her team are always so friendly and helpful and go above and beyond with any questions I have. Over the years Evan Evans have helped me design and manufacture a number of different items, including GIANT 8 meter long flags, to plinth socks for the Cricket during the summer. This summer Rene spent a huge amount of time with me fine tuning the Australia and India (pictured) mats that were used at the cricket across Australia. 5 stars!!
The absolute best in the business wouldn't go elsewhere! Rene is a dream to work with and her attention to detail is meticulous!
Where are they made?
